Blue Ocean

There’s no doubting this piece’s true blue DNA: its navy rubber coating, the ocean waves washing over its case in a controlled sea swell, its serious water resistance (200m) and, of course, its name! 1846 of the limited edition Blue Ocean, part of the Marine Diver collection, are available in tribute to the year the company was founded by Ulysse Nardin (1823-1876). The 45.8mm case has undergone the vulcanisation treatment, a chemical process which makes the rubber less plastic and more elastic to coat the rotating graduated bezel, screwdown crown and its covers. Powered by the self-winding UN-26 calibre, two gold and blue spear-shape hour and minute hands track the time on the dial. The small seconds is twinned with the date display at 6 o’ clock and the power reserve appears at 12 o’ clock. Price: 10,800 CHF

BREGUET – Type XXI 3813 Only Watch 2015

The Only Watch charity hosts an auction every two years to sell specially designed unique pieces donated by forty or so watch brands. Funds raised by this incredible auction go into researching forms of myopathy. To support Only Watch, Breguet has designed a unique timepiece inspired by the first Type XX commissioned for the French army in 1954. The 42mm platinum case is topped by a rotating graduated bezel; it houses the self-winding 584Q/1 chronograph movement fitted with the flyback function which provides a 45-hour power reserve. The matt slate grey dial has several layers: raised chapter ring graduated to 60, central disc with inset counters (small seconds at 9, hour counter at 6, day/night indicator at 3) and date display at 6. The Arabic hour numerals and two main hands have a luminescent coating. Unique piece – www.onlywatch.com

CHOPARD – L.U.C XPS Fairmined

“Fairmined” is an eco-friendly label which certifies the extraction of small amounts of gold from mainly Latin American mines and guarantees fair working conditions for mining communities. The label is supported by Chopard, the watch and jewellery brand committed to green luxury. The ethical gold adorns the case, back and crown of the 39mm L.U.C XPS Fairmined model. The svelte 7.3mm thick case houses an equally svelte self-winding mechanical movement (3.3mm thick): the COSC-certified L.U.C 96.12-L calibre provides a 65-hour power reserve and fuels the time functions. The galvanised dial radiates with a slate grey sunburst pattern and contrasts with the twelve slender rose gold indices and gold dauphine-shape hour and minute hands. The gold baton-shape small seconds hand ticks subtly along in a counter at 6 o’ clock. Price: 16,800 CHF

The ultra-masculine Galactic watch, the star of the Breitling collection, has got in touch with its feminine side for 2015. Take a closer look and you’ll see its feminine guile: the diameter has slimmed down to 36mm, the dial gleams in ivory mother-of-pearl adorned by diamond indices and a row of diamonds glitter on the tungsten carbide bezel. Aside from the mother-of-pearl and diamond model, the Galactic 36 is also available with a pitch black or off-white lacquered dial with metallic and luminescent markers. Three hands twirl on the stage of time: two baton-shape hour and minute hands and a central seconds hand with a phosphorescent tip. The white date display appears at 3 o’ clock within the steel case. The time and date functions are brought to life by a COSC-certified quartz movement called SuperQuartzTM as it’s ten times more accurate. Price: From 3,320 CHF

Petite Heure Minute Paillonnée Only Watch 2015

“Paillonnage” is an ornamental technique that’s almost three hundred years old. It involves using tiny pieces of gold leaf or “paillons” to create a raised design which is then coated in a layer of enamel to make it colourful, glossy and translucent. Burgundy enamel beams with sunray guillochage on the dial of this unique piece donated to the Only Watch charity and up for auction in Geneva on November 7th. Surrounded by a yellow gold ring with three screws, the hour rim unfurls its Roman numerals and black minute track on a white disc. Two yellow gold hour and minute hands and the 68-hour power reserve are brought to life by the 2653P calibre. The self-winding movement features a silicon balance wheel, twin-barrel and oscillating weight in yellow gold inside the 43mm yellow gold case. Unique piece – www.onlywatch.com

First Class Gold First Class Skeleton Gold

The timeless First Class by Perrelet covers its buxom body in rose gold and flashes its mechanical heart. Its transparency means you can admire the delicately openwork self-winding P.381 calibre which provides a 42-hour power reserve and spins the cogs with class. It also brings to life the hours, minutes and seconds. Blue leaf-shape hands burst from the heart of the metal lace to tell the time. The hour rim unfurls its long slim gilded indices around a guilloché ring like sun beams. Depending on which model you choose, this ring is available in silvery white for a classic look or deep black for a strong contrast with the gold. The 42.5mm case has two brown or black alligator straps with a rose gold clasp to wrap around your wrist. The model is also available with a delicately grained disc “cover” in black or white. Price: 10,450 CHF (rose gold) – 12,450 CHF (rose gold and skeleton)
