FIFTY FATHOMS NAGEURS DE COMBAT

ON A SPECIAL MISSION

Sixty years ago, the watchmaking company created the first modern diver’s watch for the deep-sea missions carried out by the “Nageurs de combat” (Combat Swimmers) military unit. Today, a 300-piece limited edition pays homage to the courage of those ocean experts.

When he joined Blancpain in 1950, Jean-Jacques Fiechter set out to develop a timepiece to accompany professional divers. He himself being passionate about underwater exploration, he understood that such a watch would need to be sturdy, water resistant, reliable and easy to read. Two years later, he was contacted by Robert “Bob“ Maloubier and Claude Riffaud, the founders of the Combat Swimmers, a military unit comprised of formidable divers tasked with deep-sea missions. Named Fifty Fathoms, the watch was born in 1953 and was quickly tested and approved by the Combat Swimmers and added to their kit.

A date window at 4:30 completes the information.

The Fifty Fathoms Nageurs de combat is regulated by the automatic 1315 caliber. With three barrels fitted as standard, it provides a power reserve of 5 days (120 hours).

ARCEAU GRANDS FONDS

LIKE A FISH TO WATER

The Parisian fashion house has chosen the height of summer to unveil a new timepiece limited to 6 pieces with a dial made of glass micromosaic which represents the design of a silk scarf from 1992.

“Like a fish to water”. You may not be familiar with this saying but the latest work by Hermès, the Arceau Grands Fonds model, available in 6 pieces, demonstrates it perfectly. Why? Because an exquisite parrot fish decorated with blue and yellow scales speckled with white effortlessly lights up the dial of this timepiece.

SKELETON X MAGMA

PURE ENERGY

This summer looks set to be a hot one! The latest creation by Ulysse Nardin is raising the temperature with a blazing high-tech case combining carbon and epoxy.

Want a change from the daily humdrum? Then opt for the volcanic Skeleton X Magma. With the summer season in full flow, the only thing for it is to free yourself of excess. Ulysse Nardin is following this philosophy to the letter by removing the dial providing a spectacular display. Less is more! Unveiled at the latest edition of the Salon de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, the Skeleton X stands out for its graphic architecture. An X formed of four index markers is surrounded by a rectangle and then a circle with Roman numerals on each side. The hour and minute hands coated with grey Super-LumiNova® skim over this lava-like composition. All these elements are contained within a 43 mm case decorated with a magma of molten materials evoking an eruption crater. The combination of carbon fiber and red epoxy resin give each piece a unique design.

ulysse nardin magma closeupThe energy of this timepiece does not come from plate tectonics but from the UN-371 caliber fitted with a large 3 Hz balance wheel, escapement wheel and silicon anchor. Once wound, this manual-winding movement, which can be seen through the sapphire crystal, provides a generous power reserve of around 96 hours.

This smoldering creation, water resistant up to 50 m, continues the current color trend between garnet and carmine. It comes with a comfortable black leather strap finished with a pin buckle.

CLASSIC FUSION CHRONOGRAPH BOL D’OR MIRABAUD

A MEMORABLE EDITION

With challenging weather conditions, the latest edition of the Bol d’Or will be etched into our memories just like the limited edition unveiled by Hublot to mark this exceptional race.

Around 500 boats on a 125 km course. The Bol d’Or Mirabaud is the most important inland lake regatta in the world. The unpredictable winds of Lake Geneva make this a technical competition for both amateurs and experienced sailors. As the official timekeeper of the competition since 2013, Hublot has released a limited and numbered edition, the Classic Fusion Chronograph “Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2019” created specially for the 81st edition of the race. It takes the shape of a 45 mm polished satin titanium case topped with a screw-in bezel. The gray dial combined with the deep blue bicompax counters are reminiscent of the colors of the French-Swiss lake. This marine decor provides the background for the time information and the short-time measurement, all powered by the HUB 1143 caliber regulated to vibrate at a frequency of 28 800 oscillations per hour. The self-winding chronograph movement provides a power reserve of around 42 hours.
