This year the Oris watch brand, named after a river in Hölstein in northern Switzerland, is quietly celebrating the 110th anniversary of its foundation. To celebrate its ripe old age, it is putting a new twist on Big Crown, one of its iconic 1938 pieces, with the Big Crown ProPilot Day Date in 2014. This model has the same silhouette as the aviator models but is more streamlined and more modern. Its black dial features large white Arabic numerals and two large hands all coated in Super LumiNova to make it easier to tell the time. There’s a white-on-black double display at 3 o’ clock showing the day and date for improve time-telling. The self-winding movement made by Oris and housed in the 45mm steel case brings to life the time functions (hours, minutes and seconds in the centre), date and 38-hour power reserve.
