A. LANGE SÖHNE – PETITE LANGE1 PHASES DE LUNE

A GOLDEN MOON

Earlier this year, the Saxon watchmakers unveiled a pink gold watch with a silvery face displaying the different phases of the queen of the night between two full moons.

Among the new products presented by the German brand at the Salon International de Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), which was held in Geneva in January, was a small gold watch with a clear and useful display: the Petite Lange1 Phases de Lune.

The dial on the Petite Lange1 Phases de Lune is made of solid gold with silver and guilloché elements, resulting in a semi-circular pattern and providing a “floral” visual effect. Offset at 9 o’clock in a large counter framed by an hour marker with gilded indices and Arabic numerals are two lancine-shaped hour and minute hands. The seconds, meanwhile, are set at 4.30 and placed above the moon-phase display. The latter features a silver disc decorated with two moons and a whole host of golden stars. Set in a double window framed with gold at 1 o’clock, the large date displays large black Arabic numerals against a white background, with the power reserve indicator housed in the arc of a circle on the right-hand side of the dial.

The Petite Lange1 Phases de Lune is worn on the wrist with a white alligator leather strap and a pink gold buckle.

A. LANGE SÖHNE – Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon

Lange & Söhne – Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon

Lange & Söhne unveiled the Datograph Perpetual model, a fabulous piece pairing a flyback chronograph with a perpetual calendar on a grey dial, to the press and clients at the 2015 SIHH. The Saxony brand has gone one step further for 2016 by creating a more all-round version of the model: Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon.

The more all-round and more complex Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon has a manual wind L952.2 calibre in its 41.5mm platinum case. The movement fuels the 50-hour power reserve and myriad functions on the black solid silver dial tracked by luminescent gold hands: hours and minutes in the centre, large date at 12, linear power reserve indicator at 9, moon phase and dual counter displaying jumping minutes, day of the week, month, leap year and day/night indicator.

Just 100 of this limited edition timekeeping masterpiece are available.

A LANGE SÖHNE Saxonia Moon Phase

There’s been a moon phase on the Saxonia watch by A. Lange & Söhne since 1994. This year, the German brand is adding a big date to the collection’s starry display. It’s a first! As the Saxony watchmaker’s 16th movement to feature the moon phase, the self-winding L086.5 calibre takes centre stage for its precision and finish. Once it’s been set properly, the display will only differ from the actual position of the Moon by one day every 122.6 years if the watch works non-stop thus providing a 99.998% accurate reproduction of the lunar cycles. A comfortable 70-hour power reserve allows the wearer to gaze at the disc as it rotates its 852 stars and the gold hands gliding over the solid silver dial. The performance takes place in a 40mm white or rose gold case. The watch also has a stop seconds mechanism for accurate time-setting. Price: 28,500 €. Dan Diaconu

A. LANGE SÖHNE – 1815 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst

To end the year on a high, German brand A. Lange & Söhne has unveiled a new watchmaking masterpiece to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Ferdinand A. Lange (1815-1875). The mechanical marvel in a 39.5mm rose gold case has been named 1815 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst and its manual wind L.102.1 movement fuels a 72-hour power reserve and two patented mechanisms: the zero-reset (1997) and stop-seconds for the tourbillon (2008). The rhodium-plated gold dial has been intricately hand-engraved using the so-called “tremblage” technique which creates a slightly grained surface. The glittering grey dial bears two spear-shape rose gold hands which burst from the centre to track the Arabic hour numerals and gold minute track. The small seconds counter around the tourbillon cage at 6 o’ clock features the same design. Price upon request. Sharmila Bertin

Datograph Perpetual

You’d be wrong to think that grey is sad and gloomy, even in this bleak midwinter. All too often associated with melancholy, dust and discoloration, grey actually glows with elegance and lifts brighter colours beautifully. A perfect example is the solid silver case on the Datograph Perpétuel (which brings a flyback chronograph together with a perpetual calendar) whose warm deep grey showcases the silver-tone on the two rhodium-plated counters and the bright blue on some features. The L953.1 calibre in the heart of the 41mm white gold case brings the various functions to life: hours and minutes (centre), small seconds (8 o’ clock), chronograph minute counter (4 o’ clock), calendars (large date at 12, day of the week at 8 and month at 4), moon phase and day/night indicator (6 o’ clock). The manual wind movement provides a 36-hour power reserve. Price: 130,500 CHF

Saxonia

To ring in 2015 and the 170th anniversary year of the Saxony brand, A. Lange & Söhne has unveiled a trio of timepieces to join its signature Saxonia collection. There are 2 relatively classic (hour and minute hands in the centre and small seconds in the lower half of the dial) pieces in rose or white gold whilst the third watch has a second time zone. The Saxonia has a manual wind calibre inside the 35mm case whilst the other two have a self-winding movement in their round 38.5mm cases. Yellow gold, rhodium or rose gold hands glide over the black hour indices and slim minute track on solid silver dials. The second time zone has an hour hand (set using the pushers at 8 and 10 o’ clock) and a 24 hour counter at 12 o’ clock all gleaming in blue steel. Price on request

Lange 1 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst

If you don’t speak German then “Handwerkskunst” is quite a mouthful. However, the word is the definition of the magical, painstaking artisan expertise which goes into making the breathtaking Lange 1 dial, its 38.5mm platinum case and the manual wind movement which brings it to life. To celebrate the iconic watch’s 20th anniversary, the timepiece has a one-minute tourbillon showcased in a bevelled display at 5 o’ clock on the white gold dial coated in midnight black enamel. The off-centre hours and minutes at 9 o’ clock are depicted by Roman numerals and diamond-shaped indices with a hollowed small seconds. The solid silver subdial features Arabic numerals to contrast with the hour track. The 72-hour power reserve is displayed in a semi-circle between 2 and 4 o’ clock whilst the large grey-on-black date display lies in a double window at 1 o’ clock. Price: 179,000€

1815

Ferdinand Adolf Lange (1815-1875) founded the factory which was to bear his name in the Saxony village of Glashütte in 1845. The watch company was “re-founded” 145 years later. Then, in 1995, it designed a timepiece simply called “1815” in tribute to the year Ferdinand A. Lange was born. Almost 20 years later, the 1815 model has shrunk slightly (38.5mm) and put on an impeccably finished white, rose or yellow gold clock. Its solid silver dial has a small seconds at 6 o’ clock and two blue steel hands which burst from the centre. Arabic numerals mark the hours and the tips of the hands skim over the black minute track. The hours, minutes and seconds are brought to life by the manual wind L051.1 calibre. The in-house movement also provides a 55-hour power reserve. Price: 24,600 CHF

Petite Lange 1 “Soirée”

About twenty years ago the family-run Glashütte arose from the ashes following the war and the division of Germany to unveil its first collection which included the Lange1 model. The Saxon company is bringing out a completely mechanical and feminine take on its star product. The daintily named Petite Lange1 “Soirée” has veiled its mother-of-pearl face in chocolate tones framed by a rose gold bezel paved with 52 brilliant-cut diamonds. Its dial displays the hours and minutes off-centre at 9 o’ clock, the small seconds (with stop seconds) at 4.30, power reserve at 3 o’ clock and a large double date display on a white background at 1.30. The 36mm rose gold case houses the L901.4 calibre: a manual-wind mechanical movement made by A.Lange & Söhne whose power reserve lasts approximately 72 hours. The model is also available in white mother-of-pearl and paved rose gold. Price: 51,700 CHF
