CORUM – Bubbliamonds

The round and hypnotic Bubble by Corum first appeared in 2000. It had a second wind in 2015 with the launch of three models including a dial-free watch which unveiled its inner workings. This year, the Chaux-de-Fonds brand is bringing us a gem-set trio for ladies. This mini-collection of unique pieces is called Bubbliamonds and they dazzle with baguette-cut jewels: pink rubies, blue and black sapphires make the 173 diamonds shine even brighter (131 on the dial and 42 on the bezel). These twelve colourful facetted rectangles act as time markers tracked by two curvy openwork leaf-shape hands slightly off-centre at 3 o’ clock. The time functions are brought to life by the CO 055 calibre which provides a 40-hour power reserve. The manual wind movement is engraved with acanthus leaves. Price from 156,600 CHF to 165,300 CHF.  Sharmila Bertin

CORUM – Heritage Artisans Coin Watch

The bald eagle became the national bird of the United States on June 20th 1782. It is a symbol of beauty, strength and prestige which appears grasping arrows and an olive branch in its talons on most official American seals, including the President’s. It also appears on several coins such as the US dollar and inspired Corum to design the first Coin Watch with a coin as a dial in 1964. Half a century later, the La Chaux-de-Fonds brand has unveiled a limited edition of 100 pieces whose dial is a real dollar in 925 silver protected by sapphire crystal. Two black baton-shape hour and minute hands burst from beneath the eagle’s head powered by the self-winding CO 082 calibre which provides a 42-hour power reserve. The movement is nestled in the 43mm silver case whose crown gleams with a diamond. Price: 12,400 CHF. Sharmila Bertin

The watch dial is decked out in teak planks punctuated by black luminescent applied indices. Twelve nautical fans on the black chapter ring tip the hour markers in between a white minute track. The hours and minutes are tracked by two oversize skeleton hands. The small seconds lies at 3 o’ clock, the chronograph minute counter at 9 and the black date display at 6. Let’s hit the high seas! CORUM – Bubble

Chaux-de-Fonnier watch brand Corum is bubbling over with creativity as it presents the brand new Bubble model 15 years after it first launched. This timepiece was first unveiled in 2000 and surprised the world with its pioneering 44mm diameter and the magnifying effect created by the sapphire glass protecting the dial. The 2015 model is an even more spectacular feast for the eyes and comes in two limited editions: 350 of both the Vintage or All Black model are available. The steel case housing the self-winding calibre has been expanded to a diameter of 47mm; it has short lugs to better hug the wrist and the case is coated with black PVD or copper. Appearances can be deceiving as the dial is in fact flat and divided into cubes; the delightfully deceptive 8mm thick sapphire glass makes it appear domed. The dial bears leaf-shape hands, indice dots and large Arabic numerals, one of which wraps its curves around the date display. Price upon request

Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Squelette

There are designs which transcend time and transform an item into an icon. The Admiral’s Cup is one of them. After 45 years in existence, its instantly recognisable dodecagonal bezel is still capturing the imagination. The timepiece has become a work of art as it displays its openwork, chiselled and sculpted heart. The grey chapter ring features applied hour indices with a white luminescent coating dotted with nautical pennants in amongst a transferred minute track. Two phosphorescent skeleton hands and a slim baton seconds hand point to the hours, minutes and seconds. The date display is a web of figures and the date reads vertically in the window at 6 o’ clock. The grade 5 titanium 45mm case has no dial, is completely openwork and houses a self-winding movement which brings to life the functions and 42-hour power reserve. Price: 11,200 CHF
