HARRY WINSTON – Opus 14

This piece is certainly the zaniest in the Opus collection. Launched in 2001 by Maximilian Büsser, the concept is fuelled by a win-win strategy: Harry Winston gives free rein to an independent designer and gains recognition in terms of watchmaking. Since the brand is now part of the Swatch Group, the watchmakers behind this piece were able to build on Blancpain’s R&D to make their movement more reliable. What Franck Orny and Johnny Girardin have achieved is quite something: the two founders of the Télôs firm in La Chaux-de-Fonds have reproduced an actual jukebox in the Opus 14. On demand, a mobile arm picks one of a choice of three discs from the store with the date on the first, second time zone on the second and Harry Winston’s logo on the third. It is then placed on the dial and spins until it displays the right information. The 54mm watch is 17cm thick and limited to 50 pieces. Price: 400,000 CHF. Fabrice Eschmann

HARRY WINSTON – Premier Hypnotic Star Automatic

Can you remember how magical it felt to look in a kaleidoscope when you were a child? Personally, just gazing into the tube of reflective mirrors and colourful shards of glass was like diving into the rabbit hole. The Premier Hypnotic Star Automatic model by Harry Winston is inspired by the kaleidoscope as its white gold dial bursts with 84 diamonds and 108 spinels all baguette-cut and increasing in size. Each sharp petal on this dazzling flower lies in place of an hour marker. Two lance-shape hands slip by the hours and minutes whilst a star in the centre of the hypnotic piece shoots past the seconds. The time functions are brought to life by the self-winding HW2008 calibre inside the white gold case covered in 161 baguette-cut diamonds as four lateral brilliant-cut diamonds sparkle on the lugs. Price on request. HARRY WINSTON – Premier Shinde

His business was already 20 years old and his name was world famous when Harry Winston, nicknamed “The King of Diamonds”, hired the Indian jeweller and designer Ambaji Venkateshwara Shinde as head of design in 1962. He brought his signature creativity and Eastern touch to Winston jewellery including three pieces which have inspired the New York brand’s watchmakers 50 years on. The sparkling gold enamelled dial on this limited edition Premier (50 available) features a gold twisted thread whose loops form oval shapes. Some of them are paved with 3 marquise-cut diamonds reminiscent of a tiara. Two dauphine-shape hour and minute hands burst from the dazzling piece brought to life by the HW2008 calibre. The self-winding movement lies in the 36mm rose gold case paved with 57 brilliant-cut diamonds. Price upon request

HARRY WINSTON – Midnight Feathers Automatic 42mm

The feather used to be an almost sacred sign of status to mark a triumph. It was worn as a trophy on an ethnic-style necklace, springing from a hat or as a Native American headdress for example. As time and fashion passed, the feather disappeared but now it’s back as a full-fledged fine craft: feather marquetry is a skill that the Harry Winston brand has superbly showcased on its watch dials. The dial of this Midnight is like a cloth woven with amber goose feathers and thick black edges. Two slim rose gold hour and minute hands burst from the heart of the feather tapestry. The time functions are brought to life by a self-winding HW2008 calibre inside the rose gold case which measures 42.5mm precisely and bears Harry Winston’s signature three arches at 3 o’ clock.
