LES CABINOTIERS GRANDE COMPLICATION PHOENIX

CHALLENGING TIME

The watch was officially introduced during the SIHH 2019, but collectors can already enjoy its exceptional attractions and a highly complex calibre.

Once again, the Les Cabinotiers collection gives Vacheron Constantin a chance to combine a mastery of luxury watchmaking and artistic craftsmanship. The phoenix, the symbol of the eternal rebeginning, is displayed on the body of the beautiful watch case. The pattern takes on life and depth through the expert use of bas-relief engraving. Almost 300 hours of work went in to producing the final result. The magnificent 47mm-wide pink-gold case houses an extremely complex hand-wound movement. The calibre 2755 comes with a power reserve of 58 hours and features 15 complications. Like the conductor of an orchestra, it guarantees the smooth running of the Grande Complication Phoenix.

LES CABINOTIERS MYSTERIOUS ANIMALS TIGER

EYE OF THE TIGER

Just a few weeks away from the SIHH, the Geneva watchmakers have released a series of unique pieces, including an exceptional watch depicting a tiger hidden in a bamboo forest.

In the run up to the 2019 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), taking place in mid-January in Geneva, Vacheron Constantin is releasing a series of five unique pieces grouped together in the Les Cabinotiers “Mécaniques Sauvages” collection. Included in this watchmaking bestiary with some powerfully symbolic wild animals is a watch showing a big cat with a striped coat: Les Cabinotiers Mysterious Animals Tiger.

vacheron constantin les cabotiniers mysterious tiger closeupThis outstanding watch deploys all the craftsmanship of the Geneva-based brand and represents a dazzling work of engraving cut into the surface using the intaglio technique. The result brings the animal to life, as it peers out of a gold bamboo forest. The finesse of the craftsmanship brings out numerous details, such as the veins on the leaves, the horizontal lines on the stalks and the animal’s thick coat. The tiger’s yellow eyes seem to be watching for a virtual prey with a determined look.

Four discreet counters fan out to display the hours (at 10.30), the minutes (at 1.30), the date (at 4.30) and the day of the week (at 7.30), with white figures and letters against a black background. The watch is powered by the calibre 2460 G4, an automatic movement made in-house by Vacheron Constantin and providing a power reserve of around 40 hours. It is housed in a platinum 950 case with a diameter of 40mm.

Les Cabinotiers Animals Mysterious Tiger is worn with a black alligator leather strap with large scales and a tang buckle made of platinum 950.

MINUTE REPEATER TOURBILLON SKY CHART

SPACE MAGIC

From the darkness came the light! Pre-SIHH 2019, Vacheron Constantin is exciting all the senses with an exceptional timepiece certified by the Geneva Seal to bewitch the eyes and the ears.

Get ready for a masterpiece! Just a few weeks from the official presentation at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie 2019 in Geneva, the single-piece Minute Repeater Tourbillon Sky Chart has been unveiled. As usual for the Les Cabinotiers collection, Vacheron Constantin has put all its know-how into creating an exceptional collector’s item.

vacheron constantin cabinotiers minute reapeter tourbillon carte celeste dial closeupThe majestic, white-gold watch case is 45mm wide and 15.1mm thick. When you turn it over, you see a completely different scene with an engraved sky chart of the northern hemisphere. The Geneva night sky, magnified by the concave case and the sapphire glass, includes an ellipse, the Milky Way, the stars and the constellations, all lit up by a luminous coating. The stars are shown in their exact position at the time when you look at the watch. The night scene turns around once in every 23 hours and 56 minutes, corresponding to sidereal time.

The watch complications, like the minute repeater, are driven by a hand-wound movement made from 413 components and supplying 58 hours of power reserve.

TRADITIONAL COMPLETE CALENDAR

CREME DE LA CREME

Here, the exception is the rule. A noble material, craftsmanship worthy of luxury watchmaking and practical complications are all combined to meet the needs of aficionados.

Since 2006, Vacheron Constantin has provided collectors with exclusive limited editions in the Excellence Platine Collection. Sometimes simple, sometimes complicated, all the watches in the collection have a case and dial made of Pt 950 platinum and are worn with a dark blue alligator leather strap that is hand-sewn with platinum and silk threads. The 100 pieces of the Traditional Complete Calendar are no exception. The sword-shaped hour and minute hands are housed in this elegant setting, along with slender hour markers and a central second hand. Two symmetrical counters show the day and the month. A central blue hand makes its way around a circular date track. At 6 o’clock, an engraved moon phase that needs to be corrected only once every 122 years and a lunar month indicator round off the information in an attractive and ethereal way.

FIFTYSIX TOURBILLON

PRESTIGE SETTING

An aesthetic symbol displaying great mechanical skill, a tourbillon cage decorated with a Maltese cross now animates the dial of a watch certified by the Geneva Seal.

At the 2018 SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) in Geneva, Vacheron Constantin introduced a new collection, the FiftySix. The aim was clear: to give new customers a chance to access the world of a brand symbolising excellence. The task was allotted to the first automatic model without the Geneva Seal certification, and providing all the main time elements, hours, minutes and date. Now, as summer draws to a close, a new model has been added to the range and actually to head it, since this is the first model with a high complication, the FiftySix Tourbillon. As the name suggests, the self-winding movement includes the famous regulating tool invented by Breguet. While the aim of a tourbillon is to cancel out the effects of gravity, it has always acted as a strong attraction for lovers of luxury watchmaking. The new reference should be no exception.

FIFTYSIX COMPLETE CALENDAR

UNCONDITIONAL ELEGANCE

Although gold has always been the cherished ‘must’ material for the manufacture’s complication timepieces, the latest FiftySix models are now also fashioned in stainless steel.

Pride of place in Vacheron Constantin’s newly-created collection and unveiled during the last edition of the Salon de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva, its FiftySix Complete Calendar which consolidates the manufacture’s mechanical craftsmanship and its mastery of exquisite design. All the displays are harmoniously set out on the monochrome dial embracing a dual finish… sunburst exterior and opaline centre. Two rectangular apertures nestling at 12 o’clock display the day and the month. The date is read on a discreet scale which caresses the edge of this beautifully-understated composition, which is brushed gently by a fine blue-coloured hand. At 6 o’clock, a carved opening offers the white gold moon a poetic scenescape to unveil its phases with utmost precision because, once set, it only requires adjustment every 122 years. To ensure hours and minutes can be read perfectly well, even in dusky light, the white gold hands and indexes are covered with a white luminescent coating.

LES CABINOTIERS GRANDE COMPLICATION ORNEMENTALE

TOUR DE FORCE

With this new creation added to its exclusive collection, the brand combines multiple watchmaking complications enhanced by the art of engraving.

With Les Cabinotiers Grande Complication “Ornementale“, Vacheron Constantin has provided the best of its skills all concentrated in a grey-gold 47mm-wide case. The watch features 16 complications on two purple-toned gold dials. Among them are the calendar functions, with a perpetual date combined with an equation of time. The timepiece also displays the sunrise and sunset time. Several features are turned towards the sky, including a sky chart completed by the moon age and moon phases, as well as the sidereal hours and minutes. The seasons with the signs of the zodiac have not been left out. Other complications, including the tourbillon and the power-reserve indicator highlight the excellent accuracy of this unique piece. As an ultimate homage to fine watchmaking, a minute repeater and an indicator of striking-mechanism torque are also part of the watch’s enchantment.

vacheron constantin grande complication ornementale casebackBut while the mechanism comes close to perfection, what can we say about the design! The bezel, body, lugs and even the tang buckle are decorated with an ornamental pattern inspired by 19th century Victorian architecture. This work of art and miniature sculpture took over 150 hours to make by hand using chisels and specialised tools.

OVERSEAS

THE ULTIMATE BLACK

Two years on from having revealed a redesigned version of its Overseas sports model, the Geneva-based manufacture invites us to discover two new models an automatic and a chronograph, with intense-black-lacquered faces.

Inspired by the famous 222 model, created to celebrate Vacheron Constantin’s 222nd anniversary in 1977, the Overseas collection with its perfectly-elegant yet highly-sportive silhouette was launched in 1996. 20 years on, in 2016, this series was revamped but without losing an iota of its powerful identity. Whereas its ocean-blue dial enchanted more than one, the new black-lacquered face which the Geneva brand now reveals perpetuates the charm of an elegant watch whose effect changes depending on the type of strap complementing it.

vacheron constantin overseas black dial closeupOn the chronograph version, the discs of the three silvered counters – the small seconds at 9 o’clock, the minute and hour totalizers at 3 o’clock and at 6 o’clock – provide an ever-so fast and easy time view. This display, complemented by the hours and minutes in the centre and the date set at 4:30, are driven by the 5200 calibre, nestling in a 42.5 mm-diameter steel case, which offers a 52-hour power reserve.

The automatic Overseas model is proposed in a 40 mm case which hosts the 5100 calibre, a motor which delivers 60 hours’ autonomy.

These two newly-released Vacheron Constantin wristwatches are accompanied by easily-interchangeable straps: a steel-link bracelet, black alligator or black rubber strap.

vacheron constantin aerostiers collection

METIERS D’ART LES AEROSTIERS

OPENING THE GATES TO THE SKY

Eagerly awaited at SIHH, the Métiers d’Art Les Aérostiers collection is a five-part series featuring the first hot-air balloon flights in the late 18th century on each of its dials

The first question that comes to mind is “What is aerostier?“ “Aerostier” is the French word for an aerostat pilot. Yes, but what is an aerostat? An aerostat is “a lighter than air aircraft that gains its lift through the use of a buoyant gas.” In fact, this is what is generally known as a hot-air balloon, a huge bag of air with a gondola or basket beneath it, and whose history Vacheron Constantin has celebrated in five watches: the Métiers d’Art Les Aérostiers.

The watch quintet pays homage to a human adventure in the late 18th century involving the first flights of these airships, and especially the launches taking place in France between 1783 and 1785. Each dial, without hands, is presented like a miniature painting using two artistic techniques: ramolayage – a form of sculpture and engraving used to create and decorate a silhouette in two dimensions – and plique-à-jour enamelling – a technique providing a transparent and colourful result resembling a stained-glass window.

vacheron constantin aerostiers collectionThe hours, minutes, day of the week and the date can be seen at 11.30, 1.30, 7.30 and 4.30, respectively, and are displayed with the help of a quartet of discs (two constant and two jumping discs). The watches’ features are powered by the automatic calibre 2460 G4/1, housed in a 40mm-wide white-gold case and providing 40 hours of autonomy.

Five pieces of each model from the Métiers d’Art Les Aérostiers collection are available.

FIFTYSIX DAY DATE

FALLING IN LOVE WITH EVERYDAY LIFE AGAIN

In the new FiftySix collection, the Day Date model combines practical complications with an elegant and urban design. Vital in business mode and for evening parties!

Unveiled at the recent Salon de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva in January, the FiftySix automatic is now the gateway into the refined world of Vacheron Constantin. The Day Date is the latest version of this model and displays the day of the week and date on its silver or grey dial. In keeping with the elegant atmosphere of the range, the time information comes alive with the help of two counters in bicompax position. A power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock rounds off the watch, but without unbalancing the aesthetic effect. The collection takes its inspiration from a timepiece made by the brand in the 1950s. The case shape, as well as the hands and the indices – highlighted by white luminescent materials – and the font used for the figures evoke the original design. The dial surface is opaline in the centre and sunburst on the outside, bringing extra light and greater readability to the time data.

vacheron constantin fiftysix day date closeup with casebackThe functions on the FiftySix Day Date are driven by a self-winding mechanical movement. The Calibre 2475 SC/2 provides the watch with over 40 hours of power reserve. The stop-second feature is used to precisely set the time.

The watch is housed in a steel or pink gold 40-mm-wide case. Depending on the version, it is worn with a steel strap with a folding clasp or a grey-black alligator leather strap with a tang buckle. This model is certified by the exacting Geneva Seal, a guarantee of quality and reliability.
