BREITLING – Exospace B55

We’re not being ironic but the Exospace B55 is a Swiss army knife for airborne adventurers. Breitling has put all its technical and technological skills into an avant-garde watch for aviators. It is connected to the owner’s smartphone and shares data by getting alerts when messages or phone calls come in and saving stopwatch times. This multi-function electronic chronograph has an analogical (blue luminescent hour and minute hands and a red-tipped grey central seconds hand in the centre) and digital display (backlit LCD screens positioned horizontally on the black dial) fuelled by the COSC-certified SuperQuartzTM B55 movement with a rechargeable battery. Its 46mm black titanium case is topped by a rotating ratchet bezel which controls the watch’s functions. Price: 8,490 CHF. Sharmila Bertin

Bentley GT3

Founded in 1919 by British engineer Walter O. Bentley (1888-1971), the brand of the same name is famous for its luxury and racing cars. The prestigious six-time winner of the 24 heures du Mans (five times in the 1920s and once in 2003) joined forces with the watchmaking experts that are Breitling in 2002. The Bentley GT3 is inspired by the Continental GT3 racing car. Its 49mm black titanium case has a rotating notched bezel housing a self-winding COSC-certified chronometer calibre. The black carbon fibre dial is reminiscent of the car’s dashboard. The hours and minutes appear in the centre as do the chronograph seconds and minutes (up to 1 hour). The hours and minutes (exceeding 1 hour) glow green in a counter at 9 o’ clock. The green date appears at 6 and the seconds tick by at 3 o’ clock. Price: 11’220 CHF

Galactic 36 SleekT

The ultra-masculine Galactic watch, the star of the Breitling collection, has got in touch with its feminine side for 2015. Take a closer look and you’ll see its feminine guile: the diameter has slimmed down to 36mm, the dial gleams in ivory mother-of-pearl adorned by diamond indices and a row of diamonds glitter on the tungsten carbide bezel. Aside from the mother-of-pearl and diamond model, the Galactic 36 is also available with a pitch black or off-white lacquered dial with metallic and luminescent markers. Three hands twirl on the stage of time: two baton-shape hour and minute hands and a central seconds hand with a phosphorescent tip. The white date display appears at 3 o’ clock within the steel case. The time and date functions are brought to life by a COSC-certified quartz movement called SuperQuartzTM as it’s ten times more accurate. Price: From 3,320 CHF

Transocean 38

In a world where fashions come and go and we share each other’s clothing, it’s not unusual to see a woman pinch her boyfriend’s watch and pair it with a girly outfit to play with the contrasts. That said, over the years the trend for wearing large watches has changed and watchmakers are gradually veering towards more “reasonable” diameters (38-40mm). This is the case, if you’ll excuse the pun, with the new Transocean whose perfect 38mm diameter suits both men and women. Its steel case houses the self-winding Breitling 16 calibre which brings to life the time and date functions. The dial features two central hands (hours and minutes), a small seconds indicator at 6 o’ clock and a double date display at 12 o’ clock beneath the brand’s golden initial which was once its logo. The dial is available in several colours: black, silver or pearlescent white (with or without diamond-set indices). Price: 4,840 CHF

Colt Automatic

Breitling’s Colt, an icon and bestseller for over 30 years, has been given a makeover for 2014. It still has its military look but its dial adorned with concentric grooves now comes in several colours: “Volcano” black, “Mariner” blue and “Stratus” silver. The date display alone at 3 o’ clock has a white background. Two large luminescent hour and minute hands glide over equally large luminescent indices and a minute track. A slim red-tipped central seconds hand points to the seconds. The COSC-certified self-winding Breitling 17 calibre brings to life the time and date functions. The movement nestles in the heart of the 44mm steel case topped by a rotating graduated bezel and the four markers Breitling is famous for. The Colt collection also features chronograph, quartz and ladies’ watches. Price: 2,790 CHF (rubber strap) – 2,850 CHF (leather strap) – 3,260 (steel bracelet)

Emergency II Night Mission

If we told you that a watch could save a life, what would you think? Would you be intrigued or maybe think we were crazy? Well, it’s true. Since launching in 1995, the Emergency by Breitling has helped to find and rescue people in danger using its integrated micro transmitter. The 2013 version of the watch now has a dual frequency beacon connected to an alarm system by Cospas-Sarsat satellites. Its 51mm black titanium case has a unidirectional bezel engraved with a wind rose. The case houses a COSC-certified SuperQuartzTM movement which brings a multitude of functions to life: 12/24 hour analogue and digital display, chronograph accurate to 1/100th of a second, timer, 2nd time zone, alarm, date, battery indicator and more. The black dial showcases large Arabic numerals, hour and minute hands with a luminescent coating as well as two electronic screens. Price: 17,490 CHF (rubber strap)

Superocean Chronograph Steelfish

Steelfish is the perfect name for a piece which brings the deep sea depths and Swiss watch workmanship together. The sturdy 44mm steel case enveloped by a thick domed sapphire glass and ratcheted rotating bezel enables it to stay water-resistant to depths of 500m making it ideal for deep sea explorers. This Superocean designed for sea exploration is fitted with the self-winding COSC-chronometer certified Breitling 13 calibre which brings to life the time functions (central hours and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’ clock), chronograph (central seconds, 30 minute totalizer at 12 o’ clock and 12 hour totalizer at 6 o’ clock) and calendar (double day/date display at 3 o’ clock). This information features on the dial (available in black, silver or blue) as large Arabic numerals and hands with a luminescent coating, a slim minute track and three contrasting counters to ensure it is easy to read even in the dark. Price: 5,780 CHF

Avenger Blackbird

Is this watch worth of its superhero name? Undoubtedly! Why though? Its black masked avenger looks to start off with. Then there’s the robust and raw case with its striking 48mm diameter which, despite appearances, is lightweight and resistant because it’s made from titanium. The curve of the lugs has been redesigned to better hug the wrist. A unidirectional ratcheted rotating bezel features a light marker and an engraved scale around the midnight black dial. The phosphorescent hour indices punctuate the slim white minute track as two luminescent hands and red-tipped central seconds fly above. The white-on-black date display is framed by a white trim at 3 o’ clock. This blackbird’s time and date functions are brought to life by a self-winding COSC-certified Breitling 17 calibre. Price: 4’710 CHF

Navitimer 01 Panamerican

The legendary Navitimer has been considered an essential tool for flight enthusiasts since its maiden voyage in 1952. It owes its success to its reliability and functions including the famous circular slide rule on its rotating bezel, essential to airborne navigation. Breitling is releasing a limited edition series of 1000 watches named “Panamerican” in 2014. The timepiece has a bronze dial with ecru curves and counters in a 43mm steel case. The in-house COSC certified chronograph brings to life the hours and minutes in the centre, small seconds at 9 o’ clock, the 30-minute and 12-hour counters at 3 and 6 o’ clock respectively and the date at 4.30. The calibre provides a power reserve of over 70 hours. The Navitimer 01 Panamerican comes with a steel or leather (barenia or crocodile) strap. Price: 9,360 CHF
