An esthetic evolution is granting the sporty chic model a new lease on life. It becomes the first automatic round model in TPT® carbon.

In 2011, the RM 033 was perfectly round. The evolution presented at the end of 2019, the RM 33-02 Automatic, still sports this geometric shape. However, the redesigned lines of the 42mm case are inspired by those of the tonneau shape found in the current production of Richard Mille timepieces. From this point forward, this esthetic signature is enhanced by the use of TPT® carbon for the bezel and red gold for the caseband. While the original model embodied delicate beauty with its 8.8mm thickness, the evolution is extra-flat, only 6.2mm high. Despite this marked difference, the watchmakers succeeded in the feat of integrating the same RMXPA1 caliber and its bidirectional off-center rotor (45 hours power reserve) that can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback.

Expected since its announcement at the beginning of the year, this new limited series is positioned in the firmament of the American singer’s creative spirit and Richard Mille’s advanced mechanics.

Since then, this ultra-creative jack of all trades has continued to collaborate in the world of music and fashion. At the end of the year, he signed his very first watchmaking contribution with the Richard Mille RM 52-05 Tourbillon Pharrell Williams, only 30 of which were created. During the Voiles de Saint-Barth sailing competition, Pierre Casiraghi, patron of the event and Richard Mille ambassador, wore on his wrist this practical series made for sailing the Seven Seas. Let us explain.

During a regatta, crossing the line first is essential to take advantage of downwind conditions before your competitors and take control of the race. To assist sailors, Richard Mille has drawn on its expertise acquired on land by developing the RM 60-01 Regatta Flyback Chronograph. In addition to its capacity to measure short time lapses with ease thanks to its flyback function and its automatic caliber, the watchmakers knew how to meet the needs of sport lovers no matter where they find themselves on the planet.

richard mille bonbon kiwi

The French brand caused a sensation at the SIHH in January by launching a collection of “watch sweets” in 10 limited-edition models. Delicious!

For its latest participation at the SIHH, Richard Mille was the centre of attention with a series of watches that would be at home in a sweet box, but of a special kind, since the candy inside is not to eat but… to wear on the wrist! The Bonbon Collection is certainly a feast for the eyes, but above all an impressive recipe combining prestigious ingredients, luxury watchmaking and craftsmanship. The result is like a sweet shop counter, with 10 spectacular self-winding models in a limited edition of 30 pieces each.

richard mille bonbon kiwiThe second range, Fruits, is a real fruit salad with all the most popular fruits (RM 07-03 Myrtille/Blueberry, RM 16-01 Citron/Lemon, RM 16-01 Fraise/Strawberry, RM 37-01 Cerise/Cherry) and exotic fruits (RM 07-03 Litchi/Lychee, RM 37-01 Kiwi), among other flavours. Each figurine on the dial is painted in acrylic, then lacquered and coated with ground enamel and very fine sand to produce a crunchy sugar effect. The cases of the six flavours combine coloured Quartz TPT® with Carbon TPT®.

When Richard Mille calls in one of the most gifted street artists, a watch that was already exceptional for its mechanism turns into a real work of art.

In the 1980s, Cyril Kongo made a name for himself in the world of graffiti art by his work on the walls in and around Paris and later in New York. Since then, his urban art has moved from the street to longer-lasting surfaces, and he now exhibits at major contemporary art events. But no matter the medium, his work always combines typography with exuberant colour. The recent partnership with Richard Mille respects the artist’s aesthetic trade-mark. The brand gave him the mechanism of a calibre as a field of expression. The result? The 30 limited-edition pieces in the RM68-01Tourbillon Cyril Kongo series are the theatre for a surprising explosion of bright colours.

richard mille rm68-01 cyril kongo casebackThe skeletoned hand-wound movement can be admired from all angles.

Each of these masterpieces by the artist known as Mr Colourful is protected by a case made of black TPZ ceramic. This simple material is ultra-resistant to scratching and enhances the appeal of each watch. The sapphire crystal also helps to protect the watches. The glass on the bezel side is 1.50mm thick. On the caseback, it is a mere 1.20mm in the centre and 1.95mm around the outside.

richard mille rm 25-01 closeup

The meeting between the watchmaker Richard Mille and the actor Sylvester Stallone has got results. Not only has it brought about a true friendship and mutual respect but it’s also produced a new product that’s pretty unusual for the watch sector: a highly technical tool watch carved out for adventure with a capital A.

Born in 1946, US actor Sylvester Stallone is world famous for having starred as two characters in two diametrically different worlds: boxer Rocky Balboa, a 1976 film turned cult saga with countless sequels and a spin-off (2015), and ex-commando in the military elite John Rambo, a 1982 masterpiece that’s also been spun out into several episodes with the last one scheduled for 2019. But Sylvester Stallone is more than a successful actor; he’s also a talented artist and watch enthusiast. His encounter with Richard Mille led to the creation of a limited edition (20 available) with a specific look and use as it’s made to survive in hostile environments: the RM 25-01 Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone.

richard mille rm 25-01 closeupThe piece is unique in the watch sector in terms of its aesthetics and techniques and reminiscent of Rambo’s spirit. Its solid TPT® carbon and titanium case is around 51mm in diameter and 23mm thick. The body features a waterproof compartment to contain water purification tablets to make water drinkable (at 2 o’clock) and a spirit level to get perfectly flat positions (at 4 o’clock). The latter is linked to the compass on one of the two interchangeable bezels and protected by a hood with a mirror. The second bezel bears the four cardinal points with a 360° graduated disc and 24 hr scale.

Other functions complete the RM 25-01 Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone such as hours and minutes with a 24 hr display, seconds in a counter at 6, chronograph seconds in the centre, function selector at 4 and the 72-hour power reserve indicator at 2. Everything is fuelled by a manual-wind mechanical movement: the RM 25-01 calibre.

richard mille rm 11-03 caseback

Fans of classic automobiles head for Le Mans to celebrate their love of racing. For Richard Mille, the encounter takes concrete shape with a limited edition that is both technical and aesthetic.

For the ninth Le Mans Classic, Richard Mille, the event’s official timekeeper and a major partner since 2002, has released the RM 11-03 LMC. Following on from the RM 11-02 LMC, released in time for the last race two years ago, it stands out mainly through the layout of the watch case. The 2016 version was made of titanium, while this year’s model has a very robust, white ATZ ceramic and TPT carbon case. From an aesthetic point of view, both models are very similar. But some differences can be noted, such as the redesigned monopushers, crown and bezel. The omnipresent white is set off by touches of British racing green to create an atmosphere close to the race’s vintage motor-car spirit.

richard mille rm 11-03 casebackThis edition is limited to 150 pieces and is worn with an alabaster rubber strap to perfectly match the colours on the case.
