MONACO 2009 – 2019 ÉDITION LIMITÉE

UTTERLY TIMELESS

During an event in Shanghai, TAG Heuer unveiled the latest piece in the “Monaco Through Time” collection, which celebrates the anniversary of its automatic chronograph with its singular case.

TAG Heuer wraps up commemoration of the 50th anniversary of its famous chronograph with a 39mm square case on the side with the Monaco 2009–2019 Limited Edition. It is distinguished by aesthetic codes specific to the current decade. Sobriety is essential, with a dial dressed in carbon gray with a radiant brushed finish. This sober, almost monochrome universe is enlivened by a few touches of red on the central second hand and the counter hands. For the rest, we find all the characteristics specific to the timepiece, such as the crown positioned at 9 o’clock and the push-buttons located at the opposite end, at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock.

MONACO 1999-2009 LIMITED EDITION

DIFFERENT PERIOD, SAME VALUE

At an event in Tokyo, TAG Heuer has just unveiled the fourth work in the “Monaco Through Time” collection which is celebrating 50 years of its iconic chronograph.

After the 1970s, 1980s, and the 1990s, TAG Heuer is launching the fourth anniversary model of the Monaco symbolizing the production of the CW2XXX series at the start of the 21st century. After the monochrome, green, red, and gray dials, this limited edition sports a two-tone presentation in black and white, firmly rooted in the period. This style gives pride of place to square design and softened lines. The time information is very easy to read, as is the short time measurement thanks to the red accents on the central second hand, the railroad index markers and the tips of the hour and minute hands. In addition, this edition also has the original layout of the date at 6 o’clock, the crown at 9 o’clock and the chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock.

CARRERA LADY

A LADY’S WATCH IN THE RUNNING

This year, designers at the Swiss brand have re-styled the 36 mm version of the Carrera Lady model in order to offer the full range with an automatic caliber or a quartz movement.

Although the styles are all geared towards the Monaco, this year celebrating its 50th anniversary, or the new growing Autavia collection, the range is, nevertheless, turning heads and mainly those of women: Carrera Lady. This watch, inspired by the legendary men’s timepiece, worn by the TAG Heuer ambassador, Cara Delevingne, 27-year-old British model and actress, has been freshened up to better appeal to women.

tag heuer carrera ladyThe choice of dials is rather wide: it can come with either a white mother-of-pearl disk, or decorated with a satin sunray dial in blue, black, gray or purple color. A timer circles the watch face that has either silver or gold markers. In the center, two dauphine-style hands and a second hand show the hours, minutes and seconds respectively. The date is displayed in a trapezoidal-shaped window at 3 o’clock.

This new TAG Heuer watch has a large variety of straps available: steel links, alligator leather in purple, taupe or gray, or black or white quilted leather.

Price: from 2,550 (mother-of-pearl dial and polished bezel) to 4,550 CHF (mother-of-pearl dial and set bezel) www.tagheuer.com

MONACO 1989 – 1999 LIMITED EDITION

BEAUTY OF AN ERA

The 50th anniversary celebrations of the Monaco continue with the third limited edition. This transports us back to the decade which saw the birth of the now iconic model.

After the 1970s and 1980s represented by a khaki green dial and a deep red dial respectively, TAG Heuer has launched its limited edition dedicated to the next decade. The Monaco 1989 – 1999 Limited Edition has the same qualities as the chronograph launched in 1969. The 39mm square steel case is equipped with a crown at 9 o’clock opposite the push buttons. It has a grained rhodium-plated gray dial. The choice of shades for this edition are reminiscent of the models produced towards the end of the 1990s with the multiple CS series. This era saw the relaunch of the watch following a long period of absence.

MONACO 1979-1989 LIMITED EDITION

THE SPIRIT OF THE 1980S

The second limited edition out of the five planned watches marks 50 years of the Monaco by TAG Heuer and sports a red dial with the same intensity of color as a race car.

While the 87th edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans was in full swing, TAG Heuer unveiled the second limited edition which marks 50 years of its iconic model, the Monaco. It was on this circuit that the legend was born 48 years ago. In all the takes, during the filming of Le Mans in 1971, Steve McQueen (1930-1980) wore the watch belonging to his friend and racing driver Jo Siffert (1936-1971), the first Heuer brand ambassador. An influencer ahead of his time, the actor unwittingly helped the commercial success of the watch.

MONACO 1969-1979 LIMITED EDITION

ONE WATCH PER DECADE

On the 50th anniversary of the Monaco chronograph, TAG Heuer has decided to mark each decade of its iconic model by unveiling a new limited edition. Here we focus on the first of its five watches.

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of TAG Heuer‘s ultimate watch: the Monaco model. Launched simultaneously in New York and Geneva on March 3, 1969, this square automatic chronograph was swiftly adopted by Swiss racing driver Jo Siffert (1936-1971) then worn by the American actor Steve McQueen (1930-1980) in the film Le Mans (1971). Extending the festivities throughout the year, the brand has decided to celebrate this half century by releasing five timely series each inspired by a decade of the famous watch. The new Monaco 1969-1979 Limited Edition model available in only 169 pieces is the first of this anniversary series.

AUTAVIA

ICON IN BLUE

The iconic Autavia returned to the TAG Heuer collections in 2017. It again takes centre stage this year with a three-hand version featuring a smoky blue dial and a new Isograph hairspring.

The Autavia watch, first launched in 1962, was always more discreet than its younger brother, the Carrera. Its name combines two worlds and two industries, AUTomobile and AVIAtion, borrowing stylistic elements from both. In 2016, for the big comeback of the legendary watch, the brand from Le Locle launched a contest, asking watch fans to choose between 16 older models. The 50,000 people taking part voted to re-release the Autavia Rindt in 2017. This was a chronograph worn by the Austrian racing driver Jochen Rindt (1942-1970). The black watch with white sub-dials was joined in October 2017 by a limited edition unveiled for the 85th birthday of Jack Heuer, the founder’s great-grandson and honorary president of the brand. For Baselworld 2019, TAG Heuer again launched a new Autavia.

tag heuer autavia 2019 dial closeupAlthough it is a similar shape to the previous models, the new watch stands out in different ways. It is not a chronograph but a three-handed watch with a date, to start with. Next, it does without the usual colours in the collection (black, white and silver), but comes in an attractive, delicately sanded blue with a Sfumato effect – that is, with a light colour in the centre that grows darker towards the outside of the dial. The large Arabic numerals for the hours are coated in white Super-LumiNova®, and there are silver, lume-coated hands for the hours, minutes and seconds. The date is at 6 o’clock.

The 42mm-wide steel case is topped with a bezel featuring a blue ceramic ring. Inside is the calibre 5, an automatic movement certified as a chronometer and including the Isograph hairspring made of a carbon composite, a new element developed in-house. It can resist gravity, shocks and magnetic fields.

The Autavia by TAG Heuer is equipped with a brown calf’s leather strap and a steel tang buckle.

CARRERA CALIBRE HEUER 02T NANOGRAPH TOURBILLON

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

While the name Heuer is associated with competition, TAG, standing for Technique d’Avant-Garde, is linked to innovation. Both aspects come together in this surprising timepiece.

The recent Calibre Heuer 01 and 02T watches gave a new impetus to TAG Heuer’s flagship Carrera collection. Cutting-edge watchmaking and contemporary design are what made these watches so attractive. The same features can be found in the new Carrera Calibre Heuer 02T Nanograph Tourbillon with its monochrome open-work dial, encircled by a bezel including an impressive tachymetric scale. The hands and indices are all lume-coated. But what really impresses in this model by the LVMH-owned brand is the inclusion of the first hairspring made of a carbon composite.

tag heuer carrera 02 t nanograph casebackLastly, in the automatic movement (providing 65 hours of power reserve) housed in a 45mm-wide titanium case, a COSC-certified chronograph is on hand to take care of the split-time measurements.
