Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller 4’000

Rolex has reigned over the deep seas since 1967 when the brand launched the mermaid model which can dive down to 610m: the Sea-Dweller. In the same year, the brand designed the famous helium valve which allows gas to escape and stops high pressure affecting the watch. Naturally, the valve features in the 2014 version of the Sea-Dweller which has the same design as its big brother with modern technical innovations and incredible water resistance up to 1220m (4000 feet). Its 40mm steel alloy case houses a COSC-certified self-winding 3135 calibre which brings to life the time, date and stop seconds for accurate time setting. The layout of the indices (most of which are coated in Chromalight®) on the shiny black dial is as follows: hours, minutes and seconds in the middle and the date display at 3 o’ clock. Price: 9,900 CHF

Oyster Perpetual Milgauss

Magnetic fields have long been the mechanical watch’s arch enemy. In 1956 Rolex declared war on them when it launched the Oyster Perpetual Milgauss designed to withstand up to 1000 gauss (hence the name) whilst being reliable and accurate. Different versions of the timepiece have appeared over the years and the 2014 model comes in a 40mm steel case with a green sapphire crystal screen housing the automatic 3131 calibre. Made in-house by Rolex and COSC-certified, this model is protected by an internal shield and made up of paramagnetic components. It is therefore unaffected by magnetic fields and brings to life time functions and a 48-hour power reserve. The indices and hour and minute hands are coated in Chromalight – the blue-toned luminescent material designed by Rolex – whilst the orange minute track and lightning-shaped second hand stand out on the electric blue dial. Price: 7800 CHF

ROLEX – Oyster Perpetual Datejust Pearlmaster 34

Finally! Some 12 years after joining forces with Patek Philippe and the Swatch Group for initial studies at the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology in Neuchâtel, Rolex has introduced silicon into one of its movements! Ladies are the first to experience Rolex’s newest feature: the diamond set 34mm Oyster Perpetual Datejust Pearlmaster has inherited the 2236 calibre fitted with the new silicon Syloxi spring. With 4 patents exclusive to Rolex and a fifth for the material itself shared with Patek Philippe and Swatch Group, this spring has a very unique shape: the coils aren’t all the same thickness and the fittings on both sides have been completely redesigned. The COSC certified calibre will be fitted in men’s watches soon. The Pearlmaster comes in 18 carat yellow gold, white gold and Everose and costs between 37,000 and 100,500 CHF.
