Pan Europ

The most American of Swiss brands is taking a trip back in time with its simply irresistible retro-chic Pan Europ model; just look at that tricolour striped fabric strap. Inspired by the original 1971 model, the 2014 version in a 42mm steel case is available in two colours: steel grey with a black or metallic blue rotating bezel and matching dial. Whichever colour you choose, both are surrounded by a white chapter ring featuring the indices and black minute track (red between 12 and 3 o’ clock). The central second hand adds another touch of red whilst the metal hour and minute hands are coated in Super LumiNova. A self-winding movement brings to life all the functions and the date (day and calendar) in a double display at 3 o’ clock. Price: 975 CHF

Big Crown ProPilot Day Date

This year the Oris watch brand, named after a river in Hölstein in northern Switzerland, is quietly celebrating the 110th anniversary of its foundation. To celebrate its ripe old age, it is putting a new twist on Big Crown, one of its iconic 1938 pieces, with the Big Crown ProPilot Day Date in 2014. This model has the same silhouette as the aviator models but is more streamlined and more modern. Its black dial features large white Arabic numerals and two large hands all coated in Super LumiNova to make it easier to tell the time. There’s a white-on-black double display at 3 o’ clock showing the day and date for improve time-telling. The self-winding movement made by Oris and housed in the 45mm steel case brings to life the time functions (hours, minutes and seconds in the centre), date and 38-hour power reserve. Price: 1,600 CHF

Navitimer 01 Panamerican

The legendary Navitimer has been considered an essential tool for flight enthusiasts since its maiden voyage in 1952. It owes its success to its reliability and functions including the famous circular slide rule on its rotating bezel, essential to airborne navigation. Breitling is releasing a limited edition series of 1000 watches named “Panamerican” in 2014. The timepiece has a bronze dial with ecru curves and counters in a 43mm steel case. The in-house COSC certified chronograph brings to life the hours and minutes in the centre, small seconds at 9 o’ clock, the 30-minute and 12-hour counters at 3 and 6 o’ clock respectively and the date at 4.30. The calibre provides a power reserve of over 70 hours. The Navitimer 01 Panamerican comes with a steel or leather (barenia or crocodile) strap. Price: 9,360 CHF
