A LADY’S WATCH IN THE RUNNING

This year, designers at the Swiss brand have re-styled the 36 mm version of the Carrera Lady model in order to offer the full range with an automatic caliber or a quartz movement.

Although the styles are all geared towards the Monaco, this year celebrating its 50th anniversary, or the new growing Autavia collection, the range is, nevertheless, turning heads and mainly those of women: Carrera Lady. This watch, inspired by the legendary men’s timepiece, worn by the TAG Heuer ambassador, Cara Delevingne, 27-year-old British model and actress, has been freshened up to better appeal to women.

tag heuer carrera ladyThe choice of dials is rather wide: it can come with either a white mother-of-pearl disk, or decorated with a satin sunray dial in blue, black, gray or purple color. A timer circles the watch face that has either silver or gold markers. In the center, two dauphine-style hands and a second hand show the hours, minutes and seconds respectively. The date is displayed in a trapezoidal-shaped window at 3 o’clock.

This new TAG Heuer watch has a large variety of straps available: steel links, alligator leather in purple, taupe or gray, or black or white quilted leather.

Inspired by the blue waves of the sea, the Marine collection for women welcomes new models made of gold or steel, some topped with a band of diamonds, and with guilloched mother-of-pearl or blue lacquered faces.

Around two centuries ago, a few years after opening his business on Quai de l’Horloge, Paris, Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) became Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy, a prestigious title which was the crowning achievement of his many works, in particular in chronometers and maritime clocks. With the rich heritage left by its founder, the current manufacture, now based in the heart of the Joux Valley, has been inspired to create a collection named Marine including some pieces dedicated to women. This year, the Marine Dame welcomes new timepieces, all equipped with the 591A automatic caliber which offers a power reserve of 38 hours.

breguet marine dame 2019 whiteSince the guilloched pattern is a specialty of Breguet, the white or blue mother-of-pearl dials which form the pieces made of gold include the exclusive “marea” pattern, a decoration inspired by the undulation of the waves. Three applied Roman numerals connected by beaded minute markers surround this miniature hand-sculpted sea. These are passed over by the Breguet moon-tip hands coated with Super-LumiNova® displaying the hours, minutes and seconds, the counterweight of the latter takes the shape of a nautical flag. At 3 o’clock, a trapezoidal-shaped window displays the date. With the steel versions, the dial comes in white iridescent mother-of-pearl or covered in azure blue lacquer which resembles the light sparkling on the surface of the water.

The Marine Dame comes with a white or blue alligator strap, or a white rubber strap decorated with strands of aquatic plants.

Knowing the time without looking at the watch face, that is the offering from timekeepers equipped with the minute repeater complication such as this new magnified reference by Patek Philippe.

Unveiled for the first time in 2005 by Patek Philippe, the Reference 5078G Minute Repeater was then presented with a white face decorated with Roman figures. Twelve years later, they were replaced by their Breguet type homologues positioned on a cream colored disk. This year, the watchmaker has opted for an evolution stripped of any monogram. Discreet indexes take their place on an enamel decoration with a refined aesthetic made up of scrolls and arabesques in a combination of black and grey tints and brilliant and matt finishes. This mise en scène is skimmed over by the delicate leaf form hour and minute hands. A small second hand carries out its revolutions at 6 o’clock. The whole is protected by an elegant white gold case, 38mm diameter and 10.18mm thick.
